The Antagonist puts the sound of analog equipment pushed beyond its limits at your fingertips, where harmonics begin to bloom and transients become more exciting. At its heart is the Antagonize control: turn it gently for subtle harmonic richness and weight, or push it harder for bold analog aggression. Flexible Tone Shaping, switchable Pre/Post processing, six dedicated Character Modes, Trim, and PEAK take you from barely perceptible warmth to unapologetic attitude.

Here's what each one does to the sound.

Antagonize

The heart of The Antagonist. Controls the amount of harmonic saturation applied to the signal. Lower settings add subtle warmth, weight, and harmonic richness, while higher settings introduce increasingly aggressive analog character, edge, and density without sacrificing musicality.
Low (100 Hz)

A broad, musical low frequency shelf centered at 100 Hz. Use it to add weight and authority before saturation or tighten the bottom end after processing, depending on the selected Process Order.
Mid (3 kHz)

A carefully voiced midrange bell centered at 3 kHz. Boost for additional presence, bite, and articulation, or reduce to smooth aggressive material while preserving character.
High (10 kHz)

A broad high frequency shelf centered at 10 kHz. Add clarity, air, and excitement, or gently soften the top end for a smoother, more vintage-inspired tone.
Process Order (Pre/Post)

Determines whether the Tone Shaping section is placed before or after the saturation engine. Pre shapes the signal before it reaches the saturation stage, changing how harmonics are generated and how The Antagonist responds. Post applies the Tone Shaping controls after saturation, allowing you to sculpt the finished sound without altering the saturation characteristics themselves.
Vocal

Voiced to bring vocals forward with added presence, harmonic richness, and energy while maintaining clarity and intelligibility.
Guitar

Optimizes the saturation characteristics for electric and acoustic guitars, enhancing harmonic complexity, sustain, and authority without sacrificing articulation.
Bass

Adds weight, growl, and harmonic density while preserving punch and low frequency definition.
Keys

Voiced to add aggression, edge, and harmonic character to synthesizers, electric pianos, organs, and other keyboard instruments. The Keys mode helps dense keyboard parts cut through a mix while retaining their musicality and expression.
Drum Bus

Enhances punch, density, and excitement while preserving transient impact, making drum buses feel bigger and more energetic.
Mix Bus

Applies a carefully balanced saturation profile designed to add cohesion, depth, and analog character across an entire mix. A subtle transient enhancement helps preserve impact and definition, giving mixes additional energy while maintaining balance and musicality.
Trim

Adjusts the final output level after processing, making it easy to compensate for changes in level introduced by saturation while maintaining proper gain staging.
PEAK

PEAK engages a soft peak limiter on the output, catching stray peaks so you can push The Antagonist harder while keeping levels under control.
Tone Shaping

Inspired by classic inductor EQ designs, The Antagonist's Tone Shaping section uses broad, musical curves centered at 100 Hz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz. Rather than functioning as a corrective EQ, these controls were designed to complement the saturation engine, making it easy to shape character with just a few thoughtful adjustments.
